School Workshop Highlights Dangers of Drug Abuse

As part of our ongoing commitment to drug prevention and youth empowerment, our NGO recently partnered with several local schools to conduct a series of interactive workshops on the dangers of drug abuse. These sessions were designed to educate students about the real and lasting effects of substance use—physically, mentally, and socially—while also encouraging open dialogue and offering support resources.

Each workshop featured engaging presentations, short videos, real-life stories, and group discussions. Trained facilitators created a safe, non-judgmental space where students could ask questions and share their thoughts freely. Topics included peer pressure, emotional health, addiction risks, and how to seek help if needed.

“We wanted to show students that knowledge is power,” said Ms. Jayasinghe, a workshop facilitator. “When young people understand the risks and have access to support, they are more likely to make healthy, informed decisions.”

One of the most impactful moments came when a recovering youth speaker shared their personal journey with addiction and recovery. Their message resonated deeply with the students and underscored the importance of making positive choices early on.

Feedback from both students and teachers was overwhelmingly positive. Many reported that the sessions not only increased awareness but also gave students the confidence to speak up and support their peers.

“I didn’t realize how quickly someone could fall into addiction,” said Kavindu, a grade 11 student. “This session really opened my eyes and helped me understand how to avoid those dangers.”

The workshops also included information about our organization’s confidential support services, including counseling, helplines, and follow-up programs for those who may already be struggling or know someone who is.
